Vintage 1960s black rayon cocktail dress

Vintage LBD from fluffy pink bunnies on Etsy

Review

REVIEW dress advertisement recently featured in the Febuary 2011 issue of Madison Australia
What a great look this would be for a bridesmaid. The dress clearly has influences in the 1950s, but the short length modernises the silouette, leaving a pretty foral dress suitable for party, wedding or formal event. I also love this hairstyle - it is quite simple to do and could be worn in a variety of situations from school to a formal event. Two pieces of hair frame the face, while the rest has been swept back and secured low. The headband adds interest to the style, and gives it an air of sweetness. However, pairing the headband with an updo keeps the the model looking sophisticated rather than like a young girl. The shoes are also, worth a mention: the solid colour compliments rather than competes with the dress, and the siluette is fairly classic, with an eye to current trends. The overall look is classic and feminine, but not old-fashioned.

Jean Dessès evening gown c. 1953

Jean Dessès evening gown from the V & A collection c. 1953

Gown from Vionnet Autumn 2011 collection

Bronze lamé gown from the Autumn 2011 collection from Vionnet
This hints back to the golden era of Holywood, when designer Madeleine Vionnet (French, 1876–1975) created some of her most well known pieces. Vionnet is a continuation of her brand, though few of the designs resemble her style. An interesting article on Madeleine Vionnet's designs and techniques can be found here.
